5 Things for Wednesday

Get up close to some cows and mark the debut of CNN today.

Here's what you need to know to get you through Hump Day:

1. Weather. Ugh. What happened to spring? No sign of it today - it's going to be hot again. National Weather Service says: Scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly after noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 92. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

2. Pack a lunch and hit the courthouse lawn at noon for the kickoff to the summer performance series, Brown Bag It With the Arts. For your listening pleasure today, the jazz band from CB South will be playing some soulful tunes. The price - FREE - can't be beat.

3. Leaders from the fields of business, nonprofits, news and more will gather today at Delaware Valley College for a day-long seminar on making social media work for you. This editor will be a part of a roundtable discussion to finish off the day. Organized by Chuck Hall, of Doylestown, registration for the seminar still is available.

4. This has got to be my favorite event of the day today. Get up close and personal with the cows at , as the Bucks County Foodshed Alliance presents the first of the 2011 Summer Farm Evening Series. Bring a dish for the potluck at 6:30 p.m. and tour the organic, grass-fed beef farm near Blooming Glen at 7:30 p.m. It's free, and you don't need to pre-register. Bring the kids and show them where their food really comes from.

5. On this day in 1980, CNN made its television debut, changing the world of broadcast news - if the not world of news, period - forever. The Cable News Network was the world's first 24-hour news channel. Its inaugural broadcast aired at 6 p.m. from its headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia; its lead story was about the attempted assassination of civil rights leader Vernon Jordan.
