5 Things for Thursday

It's going to be a beautiful day to celebrate Leave the Office Earlier Day.

1. Weather. Looks like an absolutely beautiful day on tap. National Weather Service says: Sunny, with a high near 79. West wind between 11 and 17 mph.

2. It is awards night tonight at Central Bucks East High School. The ceremony starts at 7 p.m. in the school auditorium.

3. Two local groups are sponsoring golf outings Friday. The starts at 12:30 p.m., and is followed by a cocktail hour and dinner, and the starts at 1 p.m.

4. Today is National Leave the Office Earlier Day. Celebrating it should be pretty obvious. (It's a real "day," promoted by productivity expert Laura Stack, who advocates working no more than 8 hours today in an effort to get people to work smarter, not harder.) Sounds smart to me.

5. Today was a momentous day in history. The Civil War ended in 1865. Babe Ruth retired in 1935. And Timothy McVeigh was convicted of the Oklahoma City bombing in 1997.

(Editor's Note: We originally highlighted a blood drive that was to be held today at Holicong in honor of Matt Renk, but organizers just notified us that the drive had to be cancelled. We apologize for any inconvenience.)
