Pro riders will teach the basic skills needed for safe cycling including riding straight lines, making smooth turns, using proper hand signals and learning how to ride in a group.
The young riders will “graduate” by riding an age-group race at the end of the evening.
John Eustice, a former U.S. Professional Champion, will lead the program assisted by members of the D3Devo Racing Team and retired elite racers from the region.
“Pros are the safest cyclists in the world,” said Eustice, “they have excellent judgment matched with a very high skill set. It’s rewarding to see how our pro race is inspiring new and exciting cycling initiatives in the area.”
Doylestown Bike Works, Highroad Cycles and other area shops will be providing bike checks and helmet fittings.
“An event like this is a perfect fit for our mission of youth development, healthy living and social responsibility; we’re glad to support the program and help make bike safety a priority for children in our community,” said Zane Moore, President/CEO of Central Bucks Family YMCA. “Plus, it’s a great opportunity for community youth to prepare for our upcoming Kids Triathlon on August 4.”
“Doylestown is delighted that a new generation of cyclists will learn safe skills,” Said Phil Ehlinger, Assistant Borough Manager, ”We are truly becoming a cycling community.”
Registration forms can be downloaded from the website or picked up at Central Bucks Family YMCA or Thompson Toyota.
