LVF Golf Outing Featuring Jim Murray as Speaker Raises $45,000

Lenape Valley Foundation hosted its 4th annual Golf Outing on Monday, July 15, 2013, at Doylestown Country Club in Bucks County, Pa. Don Polec, formerly of Philadelphia’s 6-ABC Action News, served as emcee at the event. Robert Rogala, Lenape Valley Foundation board member, of Doylestown, Pa. served as the event chairperson.

As a highlight of the event, Jim Murray served as special guest speaker during the outing’s evening reception. In 1974, Jim was named general manager of the Philadelphia Eagles. During his tenure as general manager, he took the franchise from the NFL’s cellar to Super Bowl heights. In 1976, he and owner Leonard Tose, hired Dick Vermeil as head coach. For four consecutive years, from 1978 - 1981, the Eagles made the NFL playoffs under Murray’s guidance. After the 1980 season, the Eagles played the Raiders in Super Bowl XV. This was the first Super Bowl appearance in the franchise’s history.

During his 14 years with the Eagles, Murray assumed leadership roles in a number of community projects. He helped start the very successful Eagles Fly for Leukemia campaign. He was also a founder of the first Ronald McDonald House in Philadelphia.
