After the day’s pouring rain moved out, after the CB West defense returned an intercepted pass to put another 6 on the scoreboard, after the teams left the field for a halftime break, the Central Bucks West Football Parents Club took over.
The club accepted $6,000 from Ford Motor Company and $2,060 from Fred Beans Family of Dealerships – proceeds from the September 6 Central Bucks West Football Parents Club Drive 4 UR School fundraiser sponsored by Ford. After hearing a few words from company spokesperson Barbara Beans, the club turned around and presented $500 to Hope for Hails, a fund that helps the Bekos family as Lenape Middle School student Hailey Bekos fights for her life against a rare but catastrophic disease.
The community has supported the school’s Drive 4 UR School fundraiser for five years, coming out each late summer in ever-increasing numbers to take test drives in new Fords and then completing surveys about their driving experience. For each qualified test drive, Ford donates $20 to the club, up to 300 drives or $6,000. The club partners with Fred Beans Family of Dealerships’ Ford dealership on North Easton Road in Plumstead Township; this is the only such community partnership for which Beans donates $20 for each test drive above Ford’s cap. Total count: 403.
Again this year, the parents club also shares the generous donations with the CB West band and cheerleading programs, whose members and parents help bring drivers to the event and assist throughout the day.
CB West’s event raised $1,800 in 2009, $4,660 in 2010, $7,440 in 2011 and $7,840 in 2012. This year’s donations bring the total raised to date to nearly $30,000.
