Annie Jr is in Doylestown on February 1st!

Members of Dance Elite Horsham’s Performance Company have been rehearsing since November for their February 1st performances of the Broadway Junior version of Annie. Set in the Depression Era, the musical is based on the smash Broadway hit, Annie, and is a family favorite about an orphan who never gives up her hope of having a family. The show features students from Pennsylvania and New Jersey, including Lauren Barkman, of Richboro, as Annie. Lauren, 13, said that playing Annie is her dream role, and she was surprised when she was cast. She added “And then I was really, really scared. It takes a lot of time, but it is worth it.” Other performers include Alec Cenci of Hamilton, NJ as Daddy Warbucks, Marley Madding of New Hope as Miss Hannigan, Sam Balka of Newtown as Rooster, and Caroline Clayton of Jamison as Lily St. Regis.

As the newly appointed director of Dance Elite Horsham’s Performance Company, Bucks County native and Broadway veteran, Carrie Nelson, chose Annie Jr for the company’s inaugural production. Nelson said, "We chose to do Annie Jr as our inaugural show because it's timeless. It was the first musical I saw on Broadway in 1981, and it just closed its return run on Broadway earlier this month. Kids of all ages, whether they are 14 or forty, know this show, its characters, and the songs. It encourages kids to keep on dreaming and to never give up."

Dance Elite’s Annie Jr performances are at 2pm and 4pm on February 1st at the James Lorah Auditorium, 132 North Main Street, in Doylestown, PA. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door or online at anniejunior.brownpapertickets.com
