Why the Immigration Bill is a bad idea

On Wednesday night, The Kitchen Table Patriots hosted a Town-hall meeting on immigration reform at the Standard Club in Doylestown. The keynote speaker was nationally renowned immigration expert Mike Cutler. As a retired Immigration and Naturalization Services (INS) Agent, Cutler testified before the 9-11 Commission and is often called on by members of Congress and other organizations to provide his expertise & insight on immigration issues.

In his speech, Cutler painted a frightening picture of the run away illegal immigration and corruption that is hurting our country and endangering our fellow citizens. He is a democrat from Brooklyn that believes that the solution lies in immediate enforcement of existing laws, rather than passing additional legislation that may also be ignored by current or future administrations. Cutler heartily supports immigration, as long as applicants are properly and legally screened through the system.

We must recognize that protecting the border is an urgent matter of national security that should be supported by both parties. In a recent article Cutler explained the hazards of the Senate "gang of eight compromise":

"While the "Gang of Eight" has been touting their compromise to concoct "Comprehensive Immigration Reform" and discussing whether or not the Southern border that is supposed to separate the United States from Mexico should be made secure, before or after Comprehensive Immigration Reform is implemented, no one - not one of the "Gang of Eight" nor anyone in the administration - is willing to concede that the adjudicators at USCIS cannot effectively adjudicate the estimated six million or more applications that they now deal with each year. Imagine what dumping millions or more likely tens of millions of additional applications onto the desks of the beleaguered adjudications officers would do to what shreds of integrity might still remain at that woebegone agency."

Obviously the Senate bill would 'overwhelm the system' and prevent the INS from protecting us from those intent on doing us harm. This is a chilling realization because according to the 9/11 Commission, roughly two-thirds of the terrorists were found to have committed immigration fraud to enter and/or embed themselves in our country. Will we ever learn from our mistakes?

Cutler also pointed out the dangers in our political asylum laws. He repeatedly stated that terrorists see this country's intended kindness as weakness to be exploited and that there have been numerous instances where terrorists have travelled to the US illegally, only then claiming political asylum. The worst thing I learned was that an immigrant who claims political asylum can summarily change their name on all documents and records and that the original names are not kept on file or tracked! Why are so many immigrants in this country under assumed names? What percentage of them are escaping a criminal past, or worse yet, planning a criminal future?

I left the meeting full of fear. In these dangerous times, who knows what sleeper cell is living in a neighborhood near you? Please call your Representatives right away. Tell them to stop compromising by floating so called "immigration reform legislation" that will likely be passed as Amnesty legislation. TELL THEM TO ENFORCE EXISTING LAW NOW. TELL THEM TO PREVENT ANOTHER BOSTON MARATHON. Bottom line. Our borders are NOT protected because existing laws are being ignored. We are on track for a disaster that will be much worse than 9/11.
