Five Activities to Enjoy Around Doylestown This Spring

Here is a list of fun ways to celebrate the arrival of spring.

Celebrating the arrival of spring with your family and friends can be really fun and refreshing after a long winter. Now that the weather is finally improving, it's time to break free from cabin fever, get some fresh air and enjoy fun outdoor activities.

Here are 5 fun ideas to try in and around Doylestown:

1)    Take to the trails. Explore a trail near you at a local park, including Doylestown's Bike and Hike System or plan a day trip and a longer hike along the Delaware River Canal path, and remember to check out the Kids Castle Wrap Party Saturday.

2)    Take a walk on the wild side and get to know nature. Beat the summer crowds and enjoy a visit to the Peace Valley Nature Center or Bowman's Hill Wildflower Preserve. You can even take a guiden at Bowman's and learn about native and invasive plants!

3)    Dig out your wheels. Time to break out your bikes from the garage. You can get your bike a tune-up or get a new one at High Road Cycles, Doylestown Bike Works and Cycle Sports.

4)    Build a fort or a tree house. If your family includes kids, spring is an ideal time to build a fun place to play. A great source of inspiration is The Treehouse Book by Peter Nelson and David Larkin, available from Amazon or try Central Books, Bucks County Bookshop or Doylestown Bookshop. You may decide to read a book instead.

5)    Start a garden. Now is the time to get your garden beds ready for planting by putting down compost. New to gardening? The Doylestown Nature Club can help you with advice on and seminars on how to get started. If you are interested in native plants, go back to Bowman's Hill Wildflower Preserve. And for questions about anything, from seeds to harvesting, call the Bucks County Extension office.
