A new chapter began Sunday for the members of Temple Judea of Bucks County.

The congregation met at the synagogue on Swamp Road in Doylestown, which has been their home since 1967.

After a final ceremony there, they said their goodbyes to the old building, removed the five Torah scrolls from the Ark, and began the journey to their new home.

Hundreds of men, women and children walked in a procession along Swamp Road and then down side roads to reach their new synagogue, 2.5 miles away, near the intersection of York and Rogers roads.

Construction has been underway on the new synagogue for the past year. Leaders broke ground at the construction site in December 2011, but the effort to find a suitable location and get permissions to build the synagogue took much longer.

"We've been waiting for 10 years" for this, Temple Judea President Jerel Wohl said at the groundbreaking.

The new 20,000-square-foot temple in Doylestown Township offers more room for the congregation, which outgrew the Swamp Road building years ago, leaders said.

Anyone buy the original temple? Wondering what that building will become now.
