A meeting Wednesday night in Central Park kicked off the effort to save Kids Castle for future kids to enjoy.

The multi-storied wooden castle is in need of renovations and replacement of equipment that has just about reached its expected lifespan, said organizer Dawn Byers.

Volunteers are needed to form the committees and get the effort underway. To sign up as a volunteer, check out the online volunteer form.

To keep up with news from the Friends of the Kids Castle, Byers encouraged people to joint the group's Facebook page.

The group's next meeting will be Aug. 29 at 6:30 p.m.; the location has yet to be determined.
