PourOver at the House of Coffee

If coffee is more of a ritual than a drink to you, then the House of Coffee on Main Street offers a brew just for you.

Caffeine aficionados have lots of choices from international chains and doughnut shops and dinners, but few of them offer what the House of Coffee does.

It’s called a “PourOver,” a cup of coffee that barista Leah Hahn of the House of Coffee says is “the most delicious thing ever.”

This is actually more than a cup of coffee, it’s a ceremony, a “hand pour coffee” that is the opposite of the grab-and-go latte mentality. Owner and roastmaster Chris Wolfe brought the concept out of the big city coffee bars to Doylestown.

For this cup, you need patience, a comfortable seat and perhaps a newspaper because it takes about three or four minutes until your personal, one of a kind cup is ready.

The process produces only one cup, and requires a swirling wrist motion to infuse the ground coffee slowly to produce a fuller cup that produces subtler flavors.

One cup—100% Kona, Rwandan or Jamaican Blue Mountain— costs $2.85 at the House of Coffee, and if you are looking for a more relaxing way to get your coffee, barista Hahn says it’s worth a taste.
