One Billion Rising Dances Into Doylestown
Watch as women and those who love them gathered in Doylestown Thursday as part of a global protest of violence against women.

Clad in pink and red, dozens of (mostly) women gathered on the four corners of State and Main in Doylestown on Thursday to dance to a powerful message.
It was Central Bucks' contribution to the 1 Billion Rising movement, a global protest of violence against women.
Organizers invited women worldwide to rise up and demand an end to rape and violence that they say will strike an estimated 1 in 3 women worldwide, citing a 2003 UNIFEM report entitled "Not A Minute More: Ending Violence Against Women," and 2008's UNITE To End Violence Against Women Campaign.

But why? Who was saved by this? What greater resources were allocated? Seems like feel-good slactivism to me.

Jane, I think if you took some time to seriously look into the worldwide movement, and had the opportunity to know the personal stories of some of the women who participated in Doylestown, you might not be so careless to throw around phrases like, "feel-good slactivism".

I find it very sad to see the comment from "Jane". These brave women are part of a movement to bring awareness to a serious problem that happens all over the world. what a great and energizing way to get people thinking about the problem and then becoming part of the solution. Abuse and violence against women - this problem has been dealt with in silence for many for too long. Jane, rather than post your ill mannered criticism, how about posting how everyone involved can be part of the solution. if you think it was a waste of time, post how you think this problem can be helped.

Jane's comments speak to the very reason WHY One Billion Rising came about - to spread awareness, to wake people up, to get people out and involved. Jane, what exactly are YOU doing to raise awareness regarding violence against women? Do you throw a check at a local women's center every now and then and feel you've done your part? It would be more helpful to see you out there with the rest of these brave women - showing your face to the world (or at least our small corner of it) and showing that you stand (or dance!) for something!!!
