Heart disease is still the number one killer of both men and women in the United States, making heart health awareness more important than ever.

The Central Bucks Family YMCA and Doylestown Hospital joined forces recently to take that message out to the public.

Staff members from both organizations collaborated to put on a "Love Your Heart" event at the Y on Feb. 19. Their goal was to help community members learn about their cardiac risks.

Visitors to the event had the opportunity to speak with fitness experts, registered nurses and a dozen cardiologists about their heart health and associated risks, such as diabetes, stroke or heart failure.

Stations were set up to check blood pressure and body mass index, and to educate about cardiac rehab and early heart attack awareness.

The event also was an opportunity to showcase cardiac-related clinical trials underway at the Richard A. Reif Heart Institute ofDoylestown Hospital.
