Doylestown Photog Shares Mummers Pics

No need to brave the cold and the crowds. John Huber's photos take you to the action.

Originally from the northeast section of Philadelphia, John Huber's family's New Year's Day tradition only involved watching the Philadelphia Mummers Parade on television.

Now, the artist, website designer and photographer lives in Doylestown, and an out-of-town guest caused him to adopt a new tradition.

"Last year, an out-of-state friend wanted to experience the parade spectacle first-hand," Huber said Wednesday. "Now I'm hooked! The performers, with their flamboyant colorful costumes and hilarious dance moves are quite extraordinary live."

If you didn't make it into the city to see the Mummers in person, never fear. Huber did, and shares some of his best photos of the day with everyone here at DoylestownPatch.

Huber photographed the South Philadelphia String Band, the Woodland String Band, the Broomall String Band and the Fralinger String Band.

The Philadelphia Mummers Parade has been held every year since 1901, with the exception of two cancellations: in 1919, because of World War I and in 1934, because the Depression resulted in a lack of prize money.
