Discover How to Park for Free in Doylestown
Print this out and tape it to the dashboard of your car, if you drive to downtown Doylestown often.
There you are, staring at the parking meter, on Presidents Day.
"No charge for Sunday and listed holidays."
Except that no "list" of holidays is posted on the meter in downtown Doylestown.
So do you plunk in a dime or two, or take the chance that Hank, Ian and Dana won't catch up with you?
Look no further. We are here to help.
After a few too many (read: four) close encounters of the parking ticket kind, we here at Doylestown Patch have developed some expert downtown parking strategies.
Chief among them was figuring out when you don't have to feed the metal beast because it's a holiday.
So, without further ado, here are the holidays which Doylestown Borough does not enforce the parking meters:
New Year's Day
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
Presidents Day
Good Friday
Independence Day
Labor Day
Columbus Day
Veterans Day
Thanksgiving
Day after Thanksgiving
Christmas Day
You're welcome.

Thank you for this!! Great job at CLARITY! One more related thought. I've often looked at those "free 15 minute" parking spots after hours and Sundays, and wondered if they're fair game for more than 15 minutes, as in, can we park there for hours? Logic tells me absolutely, yes, of course, and sure, especially since I'm assuming the parking ticket folks aren't even working during those off hours, but it also seems like the ticket brigade is not always based on logic! Thoughts?

The 15 minute meters are to make it easier for businesses to attract customers. You're more likely to order takeout from, say Hickory Kitchen or Genevieve's, if you know there's a good chance you can park nearby for a few minutes and run inside. If I park there for 4 hours, enforced or not, it goes against the spirit of the rule and hurts the biz. So I avoid them. Just my 2 cents.

What about parking on Shewell Street? There are no meters, only signs that say " parking by permit only.". What permit?

If you ever pay a parking ticket in Doylestown in person, after you hand over the $50, look at your reciept and it says "Thank you. Please come again!". Talk about rubbing salt in the wound. Who says they don't have a sense of humour. Laughing all the way to the bank.

Victoria- signs on residential streets that state "parking by permit only" is parking for residents and their guests only. Homeowners are giving parking permits every year by Doylestown Borough.

that parking by permit must be new...when going to Honey or Cafe America---my wife and i always park on that street, and now a permit is needed. parking is becoming scarce in dtown. The parking garage is too far of a walk for a small town.

The Hamilton St. lot behind Main Street Marketplace is also endlessly confusing to people since the hours to pay are different from the meters. Maybe those rules could get added to this article?
Also, most people don't even notice the 9:00–5:00 part; I can't go a week jogging through town without having to stop someone from trying to put money in after 5:00.
