California Tortilla to Reopen Next Week
The franchise will open its doors on Tuesday under a new owner.
When California Tortilla closed suddenly, many in Doylestown were left hungry for a fast, casual place to grab Mexican-inspired food.
But on Thursday, the chain announced that the store on South Main Street will be reopening soon - Tuesday, Jan. 31, to be exact.
The Maryland-based chain said the new owner for the Doylestown store is Sean Gray. The Doylestown store will be Gray's third California Tortilla franchise; he already owns locations in Concordville and Royersford, the company said.
"I am ecstatic that California Tortilla is re-opening in Doylestown and thrilled to have a veteran restaurant operator like Sean Gray join the Doylestown community," Dave Wurz, owner of Doylestown Properties LLC, said in a statement.
Officials said the Doylestown store also will introduce new brand updates during the next few months.
Founded in 1995, California Tortilla serves made-to-order burritos, quesadillas, salads and other “Cal-Mex” favorites. Based in Rockville, MD, the fast-casual chain has more than 35 locations in Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Delaware and the District of Columbia.
The Doylestown restaurant was burglarized twice in 2011.
On February 14, the lower half of the restaurant's rear door was shattered to gain access to the business.
About $3,110 was removed from a safe in the office.
The very next day, on February 15, the front door was shattered and about $225 was removed from a cash register and about $1,000 was removed from an office safe.
Then on July 31, the restaurant's door was shot and shattered, but police said no entry was made.

Barbara, I haven't been by there since I did the first story (which is here: http://patch.com/A-pQkf ). Jeff, do you have an update on Panera's opening?

Soft open? They're open but not announcing? Last I was by was Thursday mid-day. They were clearly training and had lots of stuff baked, and the standee outside said "opening in 4 days".

I hope they pay more attention to the details this time. We stopped going there because they always got our orders wrong and the lettuce was alway old and wilted.

Just back from lunch at Cali T. Hub and I got out for $16: I had a small mesquite chicken burrito and an iced tea. Curt had a taco combo (chicken and beef) that came with a drink and chips and a spicy queso dip. I brought half of my meal home, and he as well. Can't complain about portion sizes. The layout is the same, but they've changed the color scheme, replacing the reds and oranges with avocado greens and browns. I think they changed up the menu because our favorite barbecue chicken salad is no longer available. Had about a dozen employees on duty. We were there around 12:30 and five tables were taken, with others waiting for take-out. The only complaint I have is that the menu on the wall behind the counter is hard to read unless you get right up to the counter. Overall, though, it was a good fast-food dining experience and we'll be back.
