The husband of blogging teacher Natalie Munroe is running for political office.

Brian Munroe, husband of the Central Bucks East teacher who made national headlines last year for blogging negative comments about her students and colleagues, is circulating nominating petitions to challenge state Rep. Bernie O’Neill for the 29th District.

"We’re looking good and I’m very excited about it," Munroe told DoylestownPatch Friday afternoon. "I’ve had a tremendous amount of support from everyone, including the Warminster Democrats. I’ve been going door to door with the petition process, and a lot of people are anti-incumbent. That’s one of the reasons I decided to run."

Munroe, 38, had been a police officer in Radnor Township for 10 years when he was injured in a car crash on duty, he said Friday. He retired from the force and currently is a stay-at-home dad to the couple’s two children.

The national spotlight shone hotly on the Munroes one year ago this week, when Natalie Munroe’s students found out she was writing negative comments about them on her blog. The students circulated the link, their families became outraged, and the school district suspended her for a time while administrators tried to figure out what to do.

In the end, Munroe returned to her classrooms at Central Bucks East, where she teaches English.

On Friday, Brian Munroe said he thought hard about the incident before deciding to run for public office.

"I really thought about that before I made the determination to run. I do not see that as a negative," Munroe said. "What happened in regards to my wife - you can’t go through that as a family and not have that affect you. The one positive I can say is, the amount of support that was coming in to us during the peak of that was tremendous."

The 29th district stretches from Warminster, where the Munroes live, up through Buckingham, the home of Central Bucks East, and into the Solebury/New Hope area. O'Neill has held the seat since 2003.

With the filing deadline looming next week, Munroe said he will be busy the next couple days.

"It’s supposed to snow tonight, but I’ll put some snow boots on," he said Friday. “We’ve got one weekend left, and I plan on going door to door.”

Munroe said he expects his campaign website, www.votemunroe.com, to go live soon.

This may be the straw that makes me vote Republican...if only to make sure nobody from this family ever makes another decision that impacts the children of our community.

This just may be the straw the democratic party here needs! retired police officer....honorable public service ...entrusted public servant.
I can support a former law enforcement officer trying to make a run for public office. This is the type of person who has heard it all. Seen it all....If anyone could possibly represent the average "Joe" this professional can.
I support this guy, I like what he is trying to do. I wish him the best.

No way will I vote for this guy. This family needs to focus on their kid & leave ours alone. I am glad that my teen is in Centennial & not CB East where teachers are allowed to tell the world negative things & then returns to work. What a poor example & he is married to her, so it will effect his votes.

Wow! This is like a page from People Magazine or The Nat'l Enquirier.....his qualifications are that he "thought long and hard abut his wife's situation"...hhhmmmm....and just because he is a retired cop does NOT make him qualified like being in military uniform does not (I am a military officer). This guy is a transparent joke! SERIOUSLY!??!!

Sounds like Mr. Munroe has the same low opinion of voters that his wife has of her students and coworkers. We know who you are, Mr. Munroe, and you don't represent us.

Fed Up Taxpayer!

It's not hard to figure out his motives. He already gets a taxpayer funded retirement/disability check and she gets a taxpayer funded teachers check and they feel entitled to yet another taxpayer check? Talk about a triple dip into the endless pool of OUR money!!!!! All so he can be a 'stay-at-home-dad'! Where is his shame? No vote from me!!!!!!!!!!!

So you're upset that someone who helped keep Pennsylvanians safe by being a police officer and got injured in the process now wants to go serve us more by running for state legislature? If he got elected, he'd be working for his "taxpayer check." That money would be going to go to somebody no matter what; it's not like he'd be taking money that otherwise wouldn't be spent. And just because they're in professions that get paid from taxes doesn't make shameless.

Really? Injured in the line of duty and you are fed up? Really.....Next time you have a problem dont call 911....call billy the exterminator...maybe he can solve your emergency. As far as his retirement...who are you to be fed up? you didnt respond to any persons emergency calls at say 3 am. did you? You never drew your weapon to defend an person or people who you didnt even know did you? You never got injured to the point of becoming disabled providing law enforcement services to the community did you??? Fed up taxpayer, you are pathetic! get back in your lazy boy and grab the remote...but if you call 911 a police officer is still going to come to your door to solve your problems, regardless of you callling disabled police officers "Shamefull" for getting a disability check.
Good luck Mr. Munroe, Thank you for your services to the public thus far. I see no shame in a disabled police officer, Unlike this jerk.

The qualifications for holding a political office is what? Being an attorney??? I think we have all seen the ends to their means. Attorneys do not a politician make. Politicians should be a person elected to office because he or she can serve the people's interests. Political office requires one thing folks....citizenship. Other than that, you vote for your guy and I will vote for mine.
Not qualified? According to who? Political office" training" is not supplied anywhere. Give the guy a chance.

Poor impulse control and lack of respect towards her students by the wife. No thanks on the husband. Both were/are looking for the 15 minutes of fame. Agreed he
needs to stay at home and focus on his own family and
not try to affect mine!

15 minutes of fame? I believe the news media was called in by the administration at CBE. The administration called the news media and began the whole ordeal. Natalie munroe, the teacher did not back down and spoke her side of the story. Wouldnt you defend yourself if complete lies were given to the news media and you were made out to be something that you are not? Of course you would. looking for 15 minutes of fame??? I dont think so. Oh, and i believe she was given her job back and all her pay. Well a moron could figure out someone was in the wrong. Lets see,..The teacher is still a teacher and its all disappeared. Wonder why? Hmmmmm
I think this teacher has guts to sit and defend herself 8 months pregnant and completely uncomfortable. I also believe the school district wishes it never called in the media...It would seem they couldnt justify much of what they told the media. Good for her.
And lastly, I believe its a lack of respect towards teachers by students and parents. there is a reason we are falling behind in this country.

Oh, Dolores, Dolores, Dolores. How misinformed you are. Lies? She wrote what she wrote. That isn't an educator; it's an adult with extremely poor judgement. One marries for better or worse...unfortunately, Mr. Munroe now has to run with the "or worse" part attached to his campaign.

Oh, Mike, Mike, Mike...She wrote what she wrote is correct. she wrote about her problems with students and administration. However, she never names her school, town, state, or names of students. Now enter the school district, who names her to the press and begins the process. Now, lets use our heads...She was given all her pay. She was returned to her job and the school district has to eat crow.
Yeah, look into the true story. See why she is still at her job and teaching in the very same school and the very same subjects. Seems like the school district was informed they were going to be on the losing end of a lawsuit due to there actions if they terminated her. I personally applaud her for her stand on her issues with the school system today.
That teacher has my respect and guess what. A lot of us parents support her.
I dont know her husband nor have I heard anything about him except whats in the news. I think he has just as much right to run for office as anyone else would. I think his campaign should focus on the communities concerns, not your concerns with his wife.

Someone commented that Mr. Munroe is collecting disability for his injuries in the car crash while on duty. Is that accurate? If so, how is it possible to go door to door in the snow collocting petition signatures, and then to effectively serve in this position?

She got her job back due to loopholes. What she did was still unprofessional and stupid and wrong. When I was on Active Duty my secretary (read entitled govt employee with a major chip on her shoulder) decided she was going to play around with us and threaten to retire and not give any notice, because she was eligible and the rules said she was allowed go do this. I explained to her that just bc there was nothing legally stopping her from doing so didn't mean she should. Ofcourse she did exactly that. So, just because there was nothing "legally" wrong with what Monroe did and it is boiling down to "well the students were annoying" and " you made me punch you talked back to me" in an abusive relationship, it becomes Ok to be unprofessional because you don't like your students. So, the crazies looking for a platform to be crazier will vote for him bc that type loves to vote in symbols over qualifications. The rest of us know the deal. Obviously anyone can run for public office. That true. We just don't have to vote for them.

I like the idea that this guy was a cop and I thank him for his service to the community. You simply cannot deny that he has every right to run for office and if you want to make his wife a whipping post then you really have issues. Every politician has a political life and a home life. Leave this guys personal life out of the equasion. Evey person on this post only adresses his wife and if she was right, wrong or a hero for her actions.
Bottom line for me...she is still a teacher, the school still employs her, she still has her job and for whatever reason the school backed down and basically shut up.
I feel she was right for what she said. Kids today are completely disrespectful.

I don't believe any commenter has said Mr. Munroe has no right to run. He has every right. However, the only familiarity most of his potential voters has with him comes from his involvement in Mrs. Munroe's misguided blogs, and his public support of her. From this, the electorate will begin to form impressions of who he is and what he stands for.
I don't know what his politics are, other than his being a democrat. Between now and the elections we will learn more. However, to say that Mr. Munroe enters the elections without baggage would be ignorant of the facts.

I guess people need to know that as a cop I can say that this guy was injured on duty and was therefore on disability pay. If the injury is bad enough the police officer is either asked to retire or retires on his disability. Police officers who retire due to an injury on duty are paid basically early retirement.
for the people here accusing this man of taking your tax dollars? Get educated on where that money is coming from and stop being ignorant. That cop had a retirement from his pay and his township insurance.
Injured on duty doesnt mean you never leave your house again. Yeah, he walked in the snow and guess what...he probably still plays with his kids too. A cop injured on duty doesnt become a shut for the rest of his or her life.
respect our law enforcement officers, his injury was honorable and in the line of duty. If you cant respect that, dont bring it up or question it. You need to walk a beat before you judge us. I cant believe the disrespectful comments towards this guy being and disabled ex police officer. dial 911 and see who comes to your door. It sure as hell wont be your congressman.

The paper brought up that he is a retired cop. No one is taking that away from him. This all started bc a Dem up in one of the first comments said YAY we got a cop to be our straw. I come from a family of NYC cops, firemen and military and no one is denying his service only commenting on the typical reaction that being on uniform perhaps makes you more exciting and more eligible and a "shoe in" to elected office.

The article does not say if he is running as a Republican or Democrat.

If he is running as a Republican, why is he touting his attractions from Democrats?

If he is running as a Democrat, how is he different from O'Neill - who himself is a former teacher that is endorsed by the Teachers Union and endorsed by many unions like the AFL-CIO?

Either way, this sounds more like that family from Denver with their kid who was allegedly flying around in the balloon and who turned up "hiding" in their house. Once they get a taste of the limelight (good or bad), they miss it and want it back.

The school district made further inappropriate actions that they are aware of. She has her job back. I see who won that little war.

@Jordi. How can you call the 29th the Dems seat? A Republican has had it for over 10 years now. And not saying he doesn't have a right to run. This is America - go for it. I do know that he was a registered Republican in 2011. Did he recently change his registration just to run for office as a Democrat? If so, that smells kind of funny. If he is still a Republican, how is he different from O'Neill? O'Neill is one of the most liberal Republicans in the PA General Assembly.

The parents and students were the first to call the press...uncredible sources. The school district, the credible source, confirmed the name and event and the principal gave camera's permission to come into the school and Pricncipal also gave an on air interview to local news channel in his office.
The school district was the credible source that put her out there.

Have no interest if he is a Dem or GOP. His wife is an unprofessional, whiney hater and he is tainted by being married to her. So what if she didn't "break the law" she broke the public trust and that stinks. Let the ACLU rant and rave....there is the "Moral and Legal Highground" and while she didn't break the legal highground, she did the moral one....its just not appropriate or right....but we are SOOOOOO wrapped around "rights" we are losing track of what is "right" and what she did wasn't right.....and the ones out there who agreed with her that students had/have those issues whihc made what she did OK missed the point and they need their heads examined.....that was a terrible way to express it and she showed herself to be worse than her students could ever be. So because an annoying guy bothered the guy next to him at WAWA, is it OK to punch him out?? No, and the same applies here. Good Luck, Bernie O'Neill! You don't know how he will vote, what his agenda is, or who he is beholden to, but you have already decided to vote for him. How do you know that Mr. Munroe wouldn't make things worse? He even made it known that if he didn't get the promotion that he will not be back to work. His Doctor told him he can have him out of work anytime he wants. He was a Police Officer only by name; a coward is a better way to describe him. A vote for him is a vote for his wife; she is the boss and will be the real decision maker. Only in America.
