Adopt a Family for Thanksgiving

With just a few days to go before the deadline, several local families still need help to celebrate Thanksgiving.

A wreath sits on the front counter of the Central Bucks Family YMCA, but it doesn't sport any lights or holly or tinsel.

Instead, it is decorated with paper leaves inscribed with the numbers of adults or children that make up a local family needing help to put food on the table this Thanksgiving.

And with just three and a half days left to go before the deadline, far too many of those leaves remain on that wreath.

The Central Bucks Y is sponsoring the service project and is looking for volunteers to "adopt" a local family and provide the makings of a Thanksgiving dinner.

Families range from single adults, to couples, to adults with several children.

Suggested items to donate include a turkey, stuffing, potatoes, cranberries, rolls and dessert.

Items should be dropped off at the Y on November 19.

For questions, call Catherine at 215-348-8131, x1139.

Do you know if you can just donate grocery store gift cards to allow the families to pick out and pay for the food themselves? If so, which store or stores are best?

I know they were taking donations of certificates for free turkeys and whatnot, so I can't imagine they'd turn down grocery store gift cards! If Marie or someone else doesn't hop on this thread in the morning, I'll double check and let you know. Thanks for thinking of that idea. It's a good one.

Thank you for your generous offer. We would be happy to accept gift cards. We (staff at the Y) will actually be shopping for those families not yet taken. Please contact me with any questions. Trish Genghini, Director of Marketing.
